On April 3, 2013, Reedsport and Elkton, Oregon 5th graders continued a 68-year tradition, planting trees as a part of the Lower Umpqua Tree Plant! The kids planted over 3,000 trees with the help of BLM Coos Bay District, the State of Oregon Department of Forestry, and Roseburg Resources employees.

The event is the longest, continuous running tree plant in the country.  At least 35,000 students have planted more than a million trees in the Lower Umpqua area since 1946. The event has received several National Arbor Day awards over the years.
