A pair of Trumpeter Swans search for an appropriate nesting spot in the BLM-Wyoming’s Pinedale Field Office area. The Trumpeter Swan is the largest native North American waterfowl species, weighing up to 35 pounds, standing 4 feet tall and having a 7 foot wingspan. Trumpeter Swans can be found from Alaska, east to the Great Lakes, south to Arkansas and over to the west coast. The fall migration begins in October to late November while the spring migration to breeding areas begins in March. Nest building typically begins in late April to early May.
